Why is there a small fleshy ball in my scrotum?

Small fleshy balls on the scrotum may be related to factors such as sebaceous cysts, condyloma acuminata, soft fibroma, folliculitis or epididymal cysts. It is recommended to seek medical treatment promptly for a clear diagnosis and avoid self-treatment.

1. Sebaceous cyst

Blockage of the sebaceous ducts in the scrotum may lead to sebaceous cysts, which appear as small, painless, round lumps. Often related to insufficient local cleansing or changes in hormone levels. If secondary infection occurs, redness, swelling and pain may occur. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin ointment and erythromycin ointment can be used as directed by the doctor. In severe cases, surgical removal is required.

2. Genital warts

Genital warts caused by human papillomavirus infection appear as cauliflower-shaped or papillary growths. It is mainly spread through sexual contact and may be accompanied by itching or oozing. It needs to be removed by cryotherapy or laser, and drugs such as imiquimod cream and podophyllotoxin tincture can be used together.

3. Soft fibroma

Soft fibromas are benign skin hyperplasia, common in middle-aged and elderly people, appearing as small fleshy balls with skin color and pedicles. It may be related to friction or genetic factors and generally does not require treatment. If it affects life, it can be removed by electrocautery or surgery.

4. Folliculitis

Bacterial infection of hair follicles may cause red papules or pustules, often caused by excessive sweating or shaving damage. May present as painful induration. Keep the area dry and use fusidic acid cream or clindamycin gel as directed by your doctor.

5. Epididymal cyst

Cystic masses formed in the epididymis may touch small indurations in the scrotum, and are often related to obstruction of the vas deferens. Ultrasound examination can confirm the diagnosis. Smaller cysts do not require treatment, but larger or symptomatic cysts require surgical removal.

You should choose loose and breathable cotton underwear for daily use to avoid prolonged sitting and local friction. When bathing, be careful to gently clean the scrotal skin and do not scratch or squeeze the lumps. Observe whether the tumor enlarges, ruptures, or is accompanied by symptoms such as fever. If any abnormality occurs, you should promptly seek treatment at a dermatology or urology department. It is prohibited to use corrosive drugs or perform dangerous operations such as needle picking by yourself.
