In fact, there is no fasting list with dozens of items posted on the Internet during the early stages of pregnancy. There are only four types of foods with clear health risks that really need to be avoided 100%. The rest of the so-called "taboos" are mostly "just control the amount" or "depend on your personal physique." There is absolutely no need to avoid touching this or eating that just because you are pregnant.
Not long ago, my distant cousin just found out that she was 6 weeks pregnant. I compared the list of taboos I found online. I remembered that I had just drank half a cup of iced milk tea the day before and cried all afternoon. I had to take my husband to the hospital for a check-up. The doctor who treated me didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He said that many young pregnant mothers are frightened by the list on the Internet. In fact, they are not so particular.
What you really shouldn’t touch is all alcoholic drinks and food, whether it’s fruit wine, glutinous rice wine, drunken shrimps or crabs, or dishes stewed with wine. The medical community has long known that even a small amount of alcohol may pass through the placenta and affect fetal neurological development. This is a red line without any controversy. Then there are incompletely cooked meats, eggs, and aquatic products, such as sashimi from Japanese restaurants, runny soft-boiled eggs, medium-rare steaks, and undercooked sausages from roadside stalls. These ingredients may carry salmonella and Toxoplasma gondii. The immunity in early pregnancy is much lower than usual. Once the infection is serious, it may lead to embryonic malformation or miscarriage. This is also the industry consensus. There are also unpasteurized fresh milk, soft cheese, leftovers that have been left in the refrigerator for two or three days without being thoroughly heated, refrigerated cold cuts that have been left for a long time after opening, and ready-to-eat salads. These are easy to harbor Listeria. Ordinary people may have diarrhea in two days after being infected. Pregnant women have a much higher risk of affecting their fetuses after infection, so it is best to heat them thoroughly before eating. Not to mention moldy nuts and bitter rice noodles, aflatoxin is a strong carcinogen and should be avoided by ordinary people, especially pregnant women.
As for the controversial foods that everyone often asks about, such as crabs, hawthorns, ice drinks, and spicy hot pot, there is actually no unified answer to "can you eat it?" The older generation always said that eating crabs can cause miscarriage. Western medicine says that as long as you are not allergic to seafood and don’t have abdominal pain or diarrhea after eating, it is perfectly fine to eat one or two at a time. When my best friend was just 8 weeks pregnant, she was so greedy that she ate two steamed hairy crabs. She was so scared that she went to the emergency room all night. The doctor said that if it is true that cold crabs can cause miscarriage, then you don’t need to go to the hospital if you want to terminate the pregnancy. If you don’t feel uncomfortable, don’t worry. The same goes for hawthorn. Many people say that it can stimulate uterine contractions. However, when early pregnancy reactions are severe, many people rely on the sourness to suppress morning sickness. It is perfectly fine to eat one or two to relieve nausea. Don't just eat three or five bunches at a time. If you already have signs of threatened abortion, it is of course better to be cautious and not touch it.
Last week, someone in the group of pregnant mothers in our community asked if they could drink iced Coke. I even came out and said that when I was pregnant with my eldest son, I was so pregnant that I couldn't eat anything, so I relied on iced lemonade to stay alive. I drank only half a cup each time, and the entire pregnancy went smoothly. In fact, as long as you don’t have a sensitive stomach that causes diarrhea when you eat ice, and you don’t have gestational diabetes, it’s really not a big deal if you take a sip or two to satisfy your cravings occasionally. Don’t just drink water every day. On the contrary, it will make you feel bad, and the impact on the fetus will be much greater than that little Coke.
In fact, the core principle of diet in early pregnancy is never to eat anything, but to eat cleanly and eat comfortably. After all, many people have serious pregnancy problems in the first three months, and it is good to be able to eat. Don't force yourself to eat things you don't like for the so-called "nutritional supplement", and don't be so anxious that you can't sleep because you accidentally ate some so-called "taboo foods". If you have abdominal pain or bleeding, go to the hospital in time, which is much more useful than trying to figure it out at home.
