Detoxification and colon cleansing cannot be simply generalized as "good" or "bad". The core depends on how you do it and whether you have corresponding needs. Blindly following Internet celebrity packages can easily mess up the autonomous rhythm of the intestines.

A little while ago, a girl in my department went through this pitfall. She watched a short video and saw a blogger saying, "Clean the intestines once a month to eliminate acne and slim down the waist." She spent more than 300 yuan to buy a set of intestinal cleansing tea + fruit and vegetable enzymes. She drank it for almost three weeks. Originally, it was just Occasionally she suffered from constipation, which eventually turned into diarrhea whenever she ate greasy food, and she couldn't pass stool for three or four days without eating. She went to the hospital for a colonoscopy. The doctor said that her intestinal flora was in a mess, and she also developed slight colon melanosis. It took more than two months of treatment before she gradually improved.

Of course, this does not mean that all bowel cleansing behaviors are pitfalls. Marketing gimmicks and clinical needs must be distinguished. My dad had a colonoscopy screening last year. He took the regular bowel cleansing medicine prescribed by the doctor and emptied the intestines after drinking it as required. Only then did he clearly see two small polyps growing on the intestinal wall. They were cut out on the spot to avoid the risk of subsequent malignant transformation. This kind of bowel cleansing with clear medical needs must have more advantages than disadvantages. There are also people who occasionally eat too much and have accumulated food, or the constipation is so severe that their lower abdomen hurts. Temporarily using a mild cathartic product is far more comfortable than carrying it, and it is not harmful to the body at all.

Many people’s misunderstandings about colon cleansing actually come from the marketing brainwashing of businesses. “Poop will accumulate ten pounds of toxins” and “colon cleansing can beautify and nourish the skin” are all made-up gimmicks. Our intestines have their own independent excretion and flora balance mechanism, just like a smart conveyor belt with its own cleaning function. As long as it operates normally, there is no need for external intervention at all. If you drink a bowel cleansing product with laxatives every three days, it is equivalent to dragging the conveyor belt to run every day. Over time, it will "strike" on its own, which will lead to dependence. The originally good intestinal function will eventually be tortured into stubborn constipation, which is not worth the gain.

If you really want to make your intestines more comfortable, eat two more mouthfuls of high dietary fiber foods such as celery, corn, and oats, drink enough 1.5 liters of warm water every day, don't collapse immediately after eating, stand for ten minutes longer and walk two steps, which is much more reliable than the bowel cleansing products you spend a lot of money on. If you really have abnormal bowel movements for more than a week, call the gastroenterology department directly to see a doctor, don't mess around on your own.
