In fact, there is no absolutely fixed standardized process for daily skin care. There are only three core must-do items: cleansing, moisturizing, and sun protection. The rest of the functional steps are flexibly superimposed options based on skin type, skin care needs, and the scene. There is no saying that "one step less will result in no effect."
When I first started studying skin care two years ago, I followed the beauty bloggers and stocked up on a table full of bottles and jars. I had to apply toners, serums, essences, lotions, face creams, eye creams, and makeup primers in the morning and evening. After half a year of struggling, my skin became more and more sensitive, turning red when exposed to heat. I was always speechless, so I went to the dermatology department at a public hospital. The doctor said that I was overdoing my skin care routine. The basic routine he prescribed for me was to wash my face with warm water + moisturizing lotion + sunscreen in the morning, and amino acid cleansing + moisturizing cream at night. I followed this routine for two months, and my skin condition became extremely stable.
The question "Should I cleanse my face in the morning?" is a hotly debated question on the Internet. In fact, there is no standard answer at all. Friends with dry skin around me only use warm water of about 35 degrees to wash their face in the morning. They say that cleansing will wash away the sebum film that protects the skin, making it more prone to dryness, itchiness and breakouts in winter. However, I have mixed-oily skin, and my T-zone can reflect light when I wake up. If I don’t use a gentle amino acid cleanser and rub it in after applying sunscreen, blackheads are more likely to appear in the afternoon. So it all depends on your skin condition when you wake up in the morning, and you don’t have to listen to one side’s opinion.
In fact, skin care is like putting a protective layer on the skin. Cleansing is to remove dust, excess oil, and old dead skin cells from metabolism to avoid clogging pores; moisturizing is to fill the gaps in the skin's cuticle with ceramides and hyaluronic acid. Water-retaining ingredients such as acids prevent the moisture in the skin from escaping; not to mention sun protection, it is equivalent to holding an invisible umbrella for the skin, which can block 90% of photoaging. If these three steps are done solidly, the skin will basically not have major problems.
As for other steps, it all depends on personal needs. For example, if you stay up late recently and your face becomes very dark and yellow, you can add VC or niacinamide essence after cleansing and before moisturizing; if you have a bunch of cleft lips on your chin, you can apply a salicylic acid essence once or twice a week to clear the pores; if you are traveling to the dry north for a business trip, bring a spray with you and spray it twice when your face feels dry, or apply a hydrating mask before going to bed for emergencies.
Another controversial point is whether to exfoliate regularly. Many bloggers say that "skin care products can only be absorbed by exfoliating regularly." I believed this before and used scrub twice a week. As a result, the cuticles were thinned. It took almost a year for skin care products to heal. Later, I asked a nurse at a medical beauty institution and they said that healthy skin's cuticle will automatically fall off in 28 days, so there is no need to remove it at all. If you usually apply skin care products that always seem to float on the surface and are not absorbed, or feel lumpy to the touch, you can use mild fruit acid exfoliation once every half a month. If you have sensitive skin, don't touch this step at all.
Oh, by the way, there are still people who are confused about whether to use eye cream alone. There are two opinions around me. Some people think that the skin around the eyes is thinner than the face, and the cream is too thick and easy to form fat particles, so special eye cream must be used; some people think that eye cream is just a small package of face cream, and there is no difference in the ingredients. As long as you avoid the eye area when applying the cream. I tend to get fat particles easily when applying ordinary face creams, so I use a light and light caffeine eye cream. If you don’t have this problem, you can save money.
You really don’t need to memorize any skin care steps. Now when I’m in the morning, sometimes I don’t even need to wash my face, I just put on sunscreen and go out, and my skin doesn’t have any problems. Skin care is meant to serve you. You can do it however you feel comfortable. As long as you don’t lose the core three steps, you can flexibly adjust the rest~
