Women's abdominal pain during menstruation can be relieved by applying hot compresses to the abdomen, drinking ginger tea, moderate exercise, taking painkillers, and acupuncture. Dysmenorrhea may be related to excessive secretion of prostaglandins, abnormal uterine contractions, endometriosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, mental stress and other factors.
1. Apply heat to the abdomen
Place a hot water bottle or baby warmer on the lower abdomen and control the temperature at 40-50 degrees Celsius for 15-30 minutes. Hot compress can promote local blood circulation, relax uterine smooth muscle, and reduce prostaglandin stimulation of nerve endings. Be careful to avoid scalding the skin. People with heavy menstrual bleeding should not use hot compresses for a long time.
2. Drink ginger tea
Take 5 grams of fresh ginger slices and boil them for 10 minutes, add appropriate amount of brown sugar and drink. The gingerols in ginger have anti-inflammatory and inhibitory effects on prostaglandin synthesis. Drink 2-3 times a day. Patients with gastric ulcer should use it with caution. It can be combined with warm tonic ingredients such as red dates and longan to enhance the effect.
3. Moderate exercise
On the 2nd to 3rd day of menstruation, you can do low-intensity exercise such as walking and yoga for 20-30 minutes each time. Exercise can promote endorphin secretion, relieve pain perception, and improve pelvic congestion. Avoid swimming, sit-ups and other activities that may increase abdominal pressure or cause infection.
4. Take painkillers
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen extended-release capsules, acetaminophen tablets, and naproxen sodium tablets can inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. It is recommended to take it according to the instructions in the early stage of pain, and use it continuously for no more than 3 days. People with gastrointestinal discomfort can choose celecoxib capsules, but they must be used according to the doctor's advice.
5. Acupuncture treatment
Acupoints such as Guanyuan, Sanyinjiao and Zusanli are selected to regulate autonomic nervous function and uterine microcirculation through stimulation. It needs to be operated by a professional physician, 2-3 times a week, and 3 menstrual cycles constitute a course of treatment. The effect will be better when combined with moxibustion, and it is contraindicated when the skin is damaged or has fever.
During menstruation, you should pay attention to keeping your abdomen warm and avoid cold and raw foods and strenuous exercise. Daily intake of 50-100 grams of animal liver to supplement iron, and drinking 1500-2000 ml of warm water. If the pain lasts for more than 3 days or is accompanied by fever or abnormal secretions, you need to see a gynecologist promptly to check for organic diseases. Establishing a menstrual diary to record pain patterns can help doctors determine the cause.
