There is still a chance of recurrence of ovarian cancer after total resection. The risk of recurrence is related to factors such as tumor stage, pathological type, postoperative treatment, and individual differences.
After patients with early-stage ovarian cancer receive total resection combined with standard chemotherapy, the probability of recurrence is relatively low. When the tumor is limited to one ovary and is well differentiated, the five-year survival rate is higher. Regular monitoring of tumor markers and imaging examinations after surgery can help detect signs of recurrence early. The standardized follow-up plan includes rechecking CA125 and other indicators every three months, combined with pelvic ultrasound or CT examination. Some patients can reduce the risk of recurrence through maintenance therapy such as PARP inhibitors.
Even if patients with advanced ovarian cancer complete cytoreduction surgery and chemotherapy, they are still prone to abdominal or distant metastasis. Factors such as residual tumor cells, platinum resistance, and BRCA gene mutations will increase the probability of recurrence. Recurrence is common within two years after surgery and manifests as elevated CA125, pelvic mass or ascites. Secondary cytoreductive surgery combined with targeted therapy can be an option after recurrence. Rarely, long-term recurrence after five years may occur.
After surgery, you should maintain a balanced diet, properly supplement high-quality protein and vitamins, and avoid high-fat and high-sugar foods. Perform low-intensity aerobic exercise regularly and keep your weight within a normal range. Strictly follow the doctor's instructions to complete follow-up treatment. If symptoms such as abnormal vaginal bleeding, persistent abdominal pain or weight loss occur, timely review is required. It is recommended to join a patient mutual aid organization and relieve anxiety through psychological counseling.
