The elastic waistband that cannot be removed can be loosened by soaking in warm water, heating with a hair dryer, and stretching and adjusting. The weakened elasticity of the elastic band may be related to factors such as material aging, long-term pressure, improper washing methods, etc.
1. Soak in warm water
Soak the elastic waist part in warm water at 40-50℃ for 15-20 minutes. Water temperature that is too high may damage the fibers. Warm water can soften the rubber or spandex components. After soaking, lay it flat to dry and gently stretch it horizontally with your hands. Repeating several times can increase the relaxation. Be careful to avoid exposure to the sun or drying, as high temperatures can cause elastic fibers to brittle.
2. Hair dryer heating
Use a hair dryer with medium-high hot air to blow on the inside of the elastic band for 3-5 minutes, and at the same time open the waistline with your fingers. Heat can enhance the mobility of polymer chain segments and retain the expanded state after cooling and setting. Keep a distance of more than 10 cm during operation to avoid local overheating and fusing the yarn. The effect of nylon material is more significant.
3. Stretch adjustment
After laying the clothes flat, hold both sides of the waist with both hands, and slowly apply a lateral pulling force to 1.2 times the original length. Hold it for 30 seconds and then relax. Repeat 5-8 times. Suitable for elastic bands containing Lycra to reorganize fiber orientation through mechanical stress. Pay attention evenly to avoid local breakage, and can be used with fabric softener to reduce friction damage.
4. Suspension of heavy objects
When hanging with a clothes hanger, hang a 500-1000g weight at the waist and slowly stretch it using gravity for 24-48 hours. Suitable for thicker elastic bands of sports pants, the weight is evenly distributed and less likely to cause strangulation marks. Cotton blended materials need to maintain environmental humidity. Excessive drying may lead to a decrease in fiber resilience.
5. Professional ironing
Use a damp cloth to iron the elastic band with a steam iron at medium heat. Let the steam penetrate and stretch with your hands. The temperature is controlled below 150°C, and the polyester blended material can change its molecular arrangement through heat setting. Before operation, you need to confirm that the clothing label allows ironing. It should not be used if the silk or spandex content is too high.
Avoid excessive pulling on the waistline when wearing it daily. When washing, turn it over in the machine and put it in a laundry bag. Arrange it into a flat shape before drying. If not worn for a long time, it is recommended to fold and store instead of hanging, and check the elastic band regularly for hardening or cracks. If the elastic band completely loses its elasticity, it is recommended to replace it or find a professional tailor to modify it. Forcible stretching may cause the fabric to deform.
