Traditional Chinese medicine welcomes good opportunities and talent shortage needs to be solved
On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, the General Secretary and Prime Minister sent special congratulatory letters and instructions; Tu Youyou won the Nobel Prize for "artemisinin", which made the world look at TCM with admiration; the state continues to introduce policies to support and protect TCM, and the development of TCM in my country has ushered in a golden period.
Traditional Chinese medicine experts "move" to the community as a whole
Grandma Zhou, who lives at No. 10 Zhoucun, Daishan Street, Yuhuatai District, Nanjing, has suffered from dry eye syndrome for many years. Recently, her symptoms have become more and more severe, and she has to go to Nanjing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital for acupuncture treatment every other day. Acupuncture is very effective, but it takes half a day on the road every day. “Every time I go for treatment, I have to get up at around 5 o’clock in the morning, take the No. 62 bus and then transfer to the subway to the hospital. After arriving at the hospital, I have to queue up again. ”
But starting from December 23, Grandma Zhou no longer has to worry about it: the traditional Chinese medicine clinic jointly run by Daishan Community Hospital and Nanjing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital at her doorstep has officially opened. Nanjing Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital has 13 departments including acupuncture, spleen and stomach, anorectal, stroke, nephrology, and ophthalmology, and at least 4 experts are stationed at Daishan Community Hospital every day for consultation. More than 20,000 citizens around Daishan Community can now enjoy medical services from tertiary hospitals at their doorsteps.
Wu Suling, deputy director of Nanjing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said that there is currently a strong demand from patients in society for TCM acupuncture and physical therapy. Taking the acupuncture department of this hospital as an example, there are more than 80 open beds. During the period of winter disease treatment in summer and "March Nine" moxibustion treatment, the number of outpatient visits reaches about 1,000 per day, and the average waiting time for each bed is 8.3 hours. After being sent to the community hospital, people only need to wait for up to one hour when they come to the community hospital for treatment. On the first day the Chinese medicine clinic opened, more than 200 residents were treated.
Yu Heming, secretary of the Party Committee of Nanjing Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said that the development of traditional Chinese medicine is now entering a golden period in history, and they will also "join hands" with a number of community hospitals to establish a medical consortium. The reporter learned that the Jiangsu Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, on the basis of its alliance with 12 grassroots hospitals last year, has "joined hands" with 18 grassroots hospitals this year. The Second Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Jiangsu Province recently formed a "medical alliance" with seven community hospitals.
“Green therapy has obvious advantages
The introduction of traditional Chinese medicine into the community can not only solve the problem of traveling back and forth for ordinary people, but also save a lot of money for patients. At present, in Nanjing's tertiary traditional Chinese medicine hospital, the cost of diagnosis and treatment for a director's appointment is 38 yuan, and medical insurance reimburses 12 yuan. The patient still needs to pay 26 yuan out of his own pocket; while registration in the community only costs 1 yuan. The same acupuncture treatment costs more than 90 yuan per session in a tertiary hospital, but only costs more than 50 yuan in a community hospital, which is a savings of almost 50%.
For the same fracture, Western medicine in large hospitals usually uses surgery and implantation of steel nails to treat the fracture, which causes great suffering and cost to the patient. However, traditional Chinese medicine splint treatment in community hospitals can save more than half of the cost, and the patient does not need a second surgery to remove the steel nail, which is much less painful. The person in charge of Nanjing Shimenkan Community Health Service Center told reporters that due to the increasing recognition by the people, the hospital's orthopedic business volume has increased significantly. From January to October this year, the number of TCM diagnosis and treatment visits increased by 36.89% year-on-year, and the sales of decoction pieces increased by 32.6% year-on-year.
A survey showed that when sick, 67.9% of people said they "often" or "sometimes" thought of seeing a traditional Chinese medicine doctor, 24.6% said they "rarely" thought about it, and only 7.4% said they "wouldn't".
“Traditional Chinese medicine is becoming more and more popular as a green therapy. ”Zhang Jianbin, director of the Acupuncture Department of the Second Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Jiangsu Province, told reporters that people who sit for long periods of time in offices are prone to cervical spondylosis, lumbar muscle strain and lumbar disc herniation. However, there are not many effective treatment methods in Western medicine, otherwise you have to take risks and undergo surgery. However, traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture, cupping, massage and other methods are more effective in treating such patients. Traditional Chinese medicine has advantages that Western medicine cannot match in regulating sub-health, treating insomnia, stubborn obesity, skin diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, etc.
Large hospitals are rushing to develop TCM departments
At present, all large public hospitals at level 2 and above in Nanjing have canceled the mark-up sales of Western medicines, while only Chinese herbal medicines and Chinese herbal pieces still retain mark-up sales, and service charges for acupuncture, massage and other services have been significantly increased. Stimulated by multiple favorable factors, major Western hospitals in Nanjing have recently made great efforts to develop TCM departments.
Even though Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital is very tight on housing for the Western Medicine Department, it decided to free up part of the limited space for the Traditional Chinese Medicine Department. Next year, the number of beds will be increased to more than 40, more than double the original number. Nanjing First Hospital has also proposed the idea of a "virtual traditional Chinese medicine ward". This model will allow the traditional Chinese medicine department to "join forces" with the surgery, internal medicine, and rehabilitation departments, and the traditional Chinese medicine department to treat inpatients in these departments with traditional Chinese medicine techniques to promote faster recovery. Nanjing Zhongda Hospital, Military Region General Hospital, Red Cross Hospital, etc. have all proposed plans to expand TCM departments.
The director of a top-level western hospital told reporters that in the past, the traditional Chinese medicine department only played a supporting role in western hospitals. Therefore, among the talent team, one old and one young stood out. The "two ends" were serious, and there was a serious shortage of talents in the 30-50 age group. A survey by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine shows that in the next five years, the intended demand for professional and technical personnel of traditional Chinese medicine in medical institutions at all levels in my country will reach 517,600.
Dai Yunliang, director of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Education Department of the Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission, believes that nowadays, the development of traditional Chinese medicine is entering a golden period, and both traditional Chinese medicine hospitals and western hospitals need a large number of traditional Chinese medicine talents, especially at the grassroots level. To speed up the training of TCM talents, policies and measures must keep pace, and the income and benefits of TCM doctors, especially community TCM doctors, must be appropriately increased so that TCM talents can be "attracted, retained, and utilized." For some Chinese medicine practitioners who have learned their skills from teachers, their academic qualifications should also be appropriately recognized and given equal consideration in promotion to professional titles.
