There is no unified standard for the recovery time of food allergies. It can completely subside in a few hours or may last a lifetime. It depends on the type, severity and personal immune status of the allergy.
To put it bluntly, allergic reactions are actually the immune system accepting death and treating originally harmless food ingredients as invading germs. When it can turn this corner, individual differences are really huge. For example, acute mild allergies are very common. Many people only experience redness and sporadic small wheals around their mouths after eating foods that are prone to allergies, such as mangoes and peaches. As long as they stop eating immediately, without even applying medicine, the symptoms will be almost gone in two to three hours. If you already have widespread urticaria and some nausea and diarrhea, you can basically get better by taking a dose of antihistamines in a day or two. I was having a late-night snack with a friend a while ago, and she couldn't help but taste half of one even though she knew she was allergic to crayfish. Within ten minutes, her arms were covered with red wheals, which made her jumpy with itchiness. She took a pill at home and fell asleep. When she woke up the next day, there were no traces left.
If you think that all food allergies will heal so quickly, you are wrong. Many milk, egg, and wheat allergies that occur in infants and young children cannot be overcome in a few days. However, most of these allergies are caused by children's immature immune systems. As long as they are strictly avoided on a daily basis, many children will be able to establish immune tolerance when their immune functions gradually mature when they are 3-5 years old, which is equivalent to their own. My distant relative's little nephew vomited when he was first introduced to complementary foods when he touched some eggs. He was not even allowed to touch small cookies containing eggs. His parents strictly avoided him for two years. When he was more than four years old, he tried feeding steamed eggs again, but there was no reaction. Now he enjoys eating cakes and tarts more than anyone else.
However, don’t think that you can get better as long as you wait for a while. Academic circles now generally believe that new food allergies in adults, especially allergies to highly allergenic foods such as nuts and seafood, are likely to be lifelong. Once accidentally exposed, it can range from mild rashes to anaphylactic shock, and there is basically no possibility of self-healing. Of course, there have been different research opinions in recent years. A small sample clinical study found that some adult patients with mild to moderate food allergy received oral immune induction therapy under the guidance of doctors. After 1-2 years of persistence, they were able to avoid attacks after being exposed to a small amount of allergenic foods. However, this method has not yet been widely promoted, and the effect varies from person to person. You must not try it blindly at home. If you accidentally induce a severe allergic reaction, the gain will outweigh the loss.
In fact, it doesn’t matter how long it takes to recover. When an allergic reaction occurs for the first time, stay away from the allergen as soon as possible. If you feel chest tightness or breathlessness, don’t hold on to it. Go to the emergency room immediately. Allergies can be big or small. Don’t gamble with your body.
